Most of the learning content here really was presented as a contrast between the two types of lessons taught to the same group in the videos. In a way this was a review of much of the content covered in the previous five seconds. It was clear that through establishing rapport in a friendly and engaging manner - partly through introductions and learning of names - at the beginning of class, using friendly and simple body language, involving students in the learning as much as possible (maximizing student talk time), using elicitation techniques, communicating clearly, slowly, and in a friendly manner, having material prepared on the board in advance, having students work together even in study the Study phase, asking students questions using their names and having them ask each other questions, and providing positive feedback even when errors are made, that students learn better and feel more like they are in a friendly learning environment. This is what the second video showed. The second video also demonstrated that the teacher was flexible, and did not immediately rule things out or declare answers inappropriate - for instance, the answer to what can be done in a restaurant: play volleyball. The teacher circled it and did not say one could not do so, but that most people don't, but if they did they would need a big restaurant. He also did not get offended at a late arrival, as he did in the first video. No time was wasted grumbling about it in the second video. He just pointed out an available seat and moved on. The second lesson was more orderly, also because it is clear that he ha a prepared and well-organized lesson-plan. He also elicited feedback from the students after the last Activate activity, and took the time to close the lesson in a friendly manner. It was also clear that the smiling, joking, and laughter intermittent through the lesson - on both sides - was well received and appreciated by everyone i the classroom. The second lesson did not just seem more effective, it also seemed more fun.
