This unit gave me a chance to see an example of a poorly run lesson and contrasted it with a model lesson to highlight differences in teacher behavior and its effect on students and the outcome of the lesson as a whole. While the first lesson was comically poor, it shows the importance of attitude, eliciting and using methods other than language to communicate with students.
The second lesson however I felt, rather than being exceptional, was fairly average. I would have liked to see more of a model of exceptional teaching to learn from, rather than a good one to contrast with the former. I felt the level of student talk time remained quite low, and teacher talk time quite high. It did however show a great way of introducing the concepts of the lesson without needing to explain the underlying grammar and it's functions in a synthetic or mathematical way, as i have seen in the high schools I have taught at. I hope to see more of a "ideal" lesson towards the end of the course perhaps.
