This unit was about lesson planning, and wile the lesson content was relatively light compared to other units, it gave a good overview of some of the key ideas involved - being prepared, keeping it simple and flexible, understanding the level of the learners, setting a distinct learner's goal as well as a teaching goal, making sure all materials and equipment are ready and available, and being prepared for any problems that may arise. These all are good things to keep in mind. The unit stressed that different teachers use different types of lesson plans, some more detailed than others, and with some more experienced teachers even using only a set of note cards. The unit did stress that having prepared lesson plans, regardless of format, however, is quite important, partly to help engage the students in an effective and organized manner, and partly as a way to create a record for oneself and/or others -- either for sharing best practice, reminding oneself where along a curriculum one happens (or happened) to be at a given time in the course, or in order to have a marker of one's own progress as a teacher that can serve as a basis for self-improvement. Then unit then went into the concept of sequences of lessons and provided some templates of lesson plans, self-evaluations, and various teaching materials that can accompany different types of lessons.
