This unit was about productive skills: speaking and writing. Speaking is often the focus of many english classes, and writing can frequently be ignored, or pushed to the back burner as teachers do not like to leave a lot of quiet time in class for writing, and at-home writing assignments are frequently neglected. However, it is still important to try to build writing skills with students. Different skills can be focused on within speaking and writing practice. For example, rules for grammar and vocabulary are more formal in writing than speaking. When speaking, students can immediately tell whether or not they are being understood and correct around any misgivings, but this is not possible in writing, hence why the rules are stricter. Furthermore, students may not be familiar with latin characters and learning the english alphabet may be an additional challenge.
