This section was helpful in understanding how to approach writing and speaking with ESL students, where writing might not be a main concern. I had never thought about the importance of understanding the motivation for some students for learning english in the first place. Therefore, some students may not be concerned about learning how to write, rather they are more interested in communicating through speech. In the lesson it says to help with writing, have students read to improve, which is helpful in and of itself. It also mentions that many teachers don't like to assign in class writing as it is something they usually assign as homework.
