These two ESA demonstration lessons gave me a great example of effective and ineffective teaching. As for the first lesson, I've noticed the following mistakes: the teacher skipped the Engage phase, he didn't know Ss names, used too complex language for their level, didn't give the instructions and the whole atmosphere seemed to be tensed as the teacher was disinterested and nether motivated nor encouraged Ss. The second lesson stands in total contrast to the first one. And here is why. The teacher started with introducing himself and asking Ss' names to build better rapport with them. He used the language that was understandable for these students and accompanied it with gestures. There was an Engage phase to involve all Ss The teacher gave clear instructions and praised Ss for correct answers. And in general the lesson felt much more friendly as the teacher looked very enthusiastic about his class, he smiled and his voice was more liven. So, my conclusion is that teacher's attitude, manner and teaching style has a great impact on the effectiveness of the lesson.
