Doing this unit has really clarified the differences in all the tenses for me and I’m starting to see more clearly the reasons why my students make certain kinds of mistakes. It’s still a bit weird to think that present simple falls under the future tense, and that future tenses use both present and past participles. I think all this would make a lot more sense to my students if English didn’t have so many irregular verbs that just had to be learned. I think that’s the biggest hurdle. After learning this information, I feel like everything else follows equations and makes structural sense, so this has changed my perspective on grammar.
