Expressing future can be challenging for English language learners as there are numerous tenses and ideas with future meanings, the most common being Future Simple, Future Continuous, Future Perfect, Future Perfect Continuous, 'be going to' future, as well as Present Simple and Present Continuous with future meaning. Unit eight offers detailed structure of all those tenses, their forms (affirmative, negative and question), usage (Future simple expresses future facts and certainties, promises, predictions based on no present evidence, assumptions; Future Continuous is used for action in progress at a particular moment in the future, polite enquirers and fixed future events; Future Perfect states that something will have been done or achieved by a certain time in future;Future Perfect Continuous for how long something will have continued by a certain time; 'be going to' future expresses intentions, predictions based on present evidence, and plans. Present Simple with future meaning is used for timetables and schedules, for more formal situations or a more impersonal tone. Present Continuous expresses definite arrangements and decisions, and plans without a time frame). As in other units concerning grammar, I found the part enumerating the most typical students' mistakes to be very useful, as it helps me to know what to focus more attention on: mixing 'be going to' future and Future Simple, as well as Future Perfect and Future Perfect Continuous, as well as omitting part(s) of the structure. Besides explaining tenses' form, usage and typical students' mistakes, this unit also offers some teaching ideas for each tense's activate phase, to encourage the practice and make learning as fun and interesting as possible: e.g. fortune telling, going on holiday and what will you take, winning the lottery and what will you do, predicting future changes, and songs when teaching Future Simple.
