In this unit, I learned about the use of authentic texts, and why they are used. I enjoy using authentic texts with some advanced levels and had not considered that they could be used to build confidence in an intermediate student, for example, who is starting to better conceptualize English and discover their voice in it. I will also consider the specialist skills as described in the lesson when I am next designing a comprehension exercise for reading, particularly as it pertains to predictive skills. The ideas for 'jumbled text' and 'jigsaw texts' will also be a good way to keep a small class engaged.
