Grammar is one of the foundations that allow us to clearly communicate. Therefore, a sufficient understanding of English grammar is essential to being an effective teacher. There are several parts of speech in the English language that I must teach, including, but not limited to nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and articles. In the classroom, I must clearly explain the various parts of speech and have the ability to model them in both in verbal and written language. In addition, if I do not have mastery of a certain grammar rule, I should take the initiative to find the resources (websites, textbooks, colleagues) to learn how to explain and teach that specific rule.
