When I was a student facilitating youth groups it was always made sure there was a game or two the kids could play as an ice breaker to make the lesson content more practical. I only incorporated competitive games as all the kids in my group were boys and they were always keen for a little competition amongst each other. When working through this unit I was amazed at the different games teachers can use to learn certain language points and how it can be adapted to fit any situation a teacher might find him/herself in. What this unit reminded me is that games can create a conductive learning environment if you have the organisational skills to control the class while you introduce and facilitate the activities planned.
