A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE "UNIT 9” CONTENT AND THINGS I LEARNT SO FAR FROM THIS UNIT. The content of this unit titled “COURSE BOOKS AND LESSON MATERIALS”. As the name implies it enroll round the following items that are always brought to the classroom that aid teaching / learning process and make it make it more lively and effective.,. below are some of the materials needed in the class by both the teacher and student: • Worksheets / wipe board / Course books, /Headway, • Visual aids {Realia, pictures \ photos} / Computer /OHPs, • media / CD's / DVDs /Cassettes, • Reading book, English file series for British Language, / earners dictionaries (monolingual or bilingual) etc. For instance, using the “WIPE-BOARD” it is very important to get it clean before lesson or before you start teaching, then they should be a board plan whereby the teacher draft on a paper to get the exact way the board will be looking like and using tables / columns /colors to maintain the board in terms of appearance, writing etc. In addition, talking about MATERIALS, it can be of two types: • Authentic materials: e.g. newspapers, brochure, magazine, menus, videos, etc. these are real objects and Students give more value and interest in them. • Non materials. E.g. role-play cards, word search, picture stories , flash cards as clearly illustrated in page (3-9) of unit 9 at hand, etc., there are additional materials usually created by the teacher to aid teaching. Moreover, using either the authentic or non- authentic materials and the course books, teachers should always make the best use of them in a good balanced form, mark sure to meet the student need and use either the following approaches in term of course book usage: • Omit things that are not necessary • Replace necessary things to suit your lesson • Adapting your own style and • Supplementing additional materials. Meanwhile, it is advisable to analyze the course books in tern of expensiveness {price}, methodology, availability, design etc. before getting them to classroom for teacher and English learners…both the course books and materials discussed above has advantages and disadvantages so it is the responsibility of a good teacher to roll out the positive impact of such materials and course books to use considering the lesson, class and the students at large to bring about a suitable / effective teaching / learning process.
