A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE "UNIT 8” CONTENT AND LESSON LEARNT BY ME. This unit content titled “TEACHING PRODUCTIVE SKILLS”, {including games} and it covers the two skills among the four basic skills in Language: • Writing • Speaking. Both the writing and speaking skills are also important in language which serves the same purpose – to COMMUNICATE. Writing requires a greater degree of ACCURACY while Speaking requires a greater degree of FLUENCY. The teacher must create following need and desire in the student for effective teaching and participation, else the activities will be fairly in cooperated: • They should have some communicative purpose. • They want to say and listen to something. • They should be element of interest. ACCURACY activities is usually part of the STUDY PHASE, always dealing with producing CORRECT language controlled to bring about language accuracy. while FLUENCY activities is usually part of ACTIVATE PHASE concerned with student to EXPERIMENT and be CREATIVE with language for better effectiveness and flow of communication, In Accuracy based activities, drilling, prompting, pre-planned questions \ answer are used while free role play, information gap are commonly used etc. for effective language lesson and easy learning for English student. Finally, the use of ESA approach to achieve both the wring and speaking skill in English language lesson is always applicable and recommend for importance cannot be over emphasized. E.g. Straight Arrow lesson etc. And we should not neglect the vital role of using GAME in language for language student because it serves as motivational tools, draws the student interest and create more lively environment and room for student interactions. Example of such games are: {Tic –Tac -Toe} noughts \ crosses, jeopardy, etc.
