Elicit, elicit, elicit! Unit 3 touched on a number of different ESL teaching methodologies and ways to increase student talk time in the classroom. For me this unit serves as a spring board, meaning I now very much want to study some of these methods in depth and I expect I will do some more independent study.
Some of the methods were familiar to me, having already used them in the classroom. I did not, however, know the names of the methods until now!
I think I was too heavily using 'Straight Arrow ESA' in the past and I also think now the Patchwork approach would have been very effective when I taught in Istanbul and commonly had 2 or 3 hour lessons with breaks.
