The topic of unit eleven was teaching receptive skills - namely reading and listening. These two skills are significant because they mean the entire one side of a conversation or discussion and are often the first skills practiced when studying a language. I learned the importance of choosing the correct materials and what types of skills to teach. For example, scanning vs. skimming, predictive skills, and deduction. Using these skills can make any topic interesting for students.
