In this unit, I learned about not only how to be a good instructor, but how to be a good learner. The ways that one becomes a good instructor were partially based on personality and partially based on building classroom rapport through conscious action. The ways that one becomes a good learner have a lot to do with willingness to try and participate. From every stage of language acquisition, beginner to advanced, and the motivations for learning a new language, this unit prepared me with the groundwork of understanding the classroom context. I personally learned a lot about how I can be a better student because I currently study Japanese language in Japan. I think that this information can also help me to one day be a good English instructor here in Japan through increasing my cultural sensitivity, ability to facilitate large groups of students, and working knowledge of the many types or stages of language learners.
