I learned several grammar terms that were overlooked when you learn English as a first language. Several of the way sentences are structured and the certain words used were never taught to me in this way. When you learn English as a first language, you learn language structure without realizing that you're learning it. Learning about these parts of speech help me speak proper English and allows me to take the information learned and provide it to students in a meaningful manner. Learning why we speak in certain ways and what proper parts of speech are is an invaluable lesson. It appears that it will be difficult to explain the exceptions to some of these rules, as almost all parts of speech had some exceptions.
