Unit 7 provides me information with the methods to teach new language including Vocabularies, Structures and Functions. Firstly, I have known some ways how to teach new Vocabularies. They are: + Drawing: For visual students, drawing can be a fun medium to explain vocabulary. I do not have to be a perfect artist - stick figures and basic sketches will often work well. I can even have students do their own drawings, which further reinforces their understanding of the vocabulary. + Rankings: If i have several gradable words to introduce at the same, i can introduce them together on a scale. For instance, i can use frequency, such as always-often-occasionally. Or i can do emotions in this way, with cheerful-happy-joyous-ecstatic. + Cuisenaire Rods: This is another tactic to help visual students. i can use different colored rods to symbolize different types of words, such as prepositions, verbs, or adjectives. + Pictures: Some words work well with pictures, particularly nouns. This can also be a good way to introduce blocks of related words, which is often utilized in foreign language classes, such as nouns and verbs related to the classroom or the house. Pictures can also be used in printable worksheets and flashcards, where pictures are matched to the word they represent. + Mime: Miming works well with younger students. i can mime out emotions and everyday activities to teach new words. Secondly, There are many approaches to teach new structures of a new language. However, one of the most favorite methods for me seems to be Interactive teaching. This method is to incorporate interactivity into lessons. Using games to teach grammar not only engages students but also helps them to remember what they’ve learned. This method allows teachers to tailor their lessons to the different learning styles of students. For instance, each student can be given a large flashcard with a word on it, and the students must physically arrange themselves into a proper sentence. Other games can include word puzzles or fun online quizzes. Last but not least, what I have learnt from unit 7 is the way to teach language functions. There are two basic ways of presenting a language function: 1. Inductive way: Give the learners different examples of the function and ask students to identify it: E.g. “Any chance of a coffee?” What is the speaker’s intention here? What language or expressions did he use to express his intention? 2. Deductive way: Present a situation in which the function is needed and ask students to respond to it. E.g. you dropped the vase and it broke down. What would you say? One of my most favorite ways to teach language functions is in context, that’s in dialogues When focusing on dialogues that contain functional language, there are three things should be clear for students to help them think about and analyze the target language: + The place where the dialogue is taking place. + The relationship between the two speakers. + What the speaker A / B wants to do or say.
