This unit was about teaching receptive skills, namely reading and listening. The reasons for reading and listening were given as for a purpose or for entertainment, with examples of both. How we read and listen was discussed, as were the skills we use. The likely problems with teaching receptive skills was elaborated on, and how to deal with them, including pre-teaching the essential vocabulary and carefully selecting texts. An example patchwork lesson was given. The basic points for an effective lesson were listed. From this unit I learnt how to teach the receptive skills successfully, and how to ensure the students are interested in the lesson.
