This unit was concerned with evaluation and testing. The unit taught me that ongoing feedback is a very effective way to give students the information they need to evaluate their own level and progress. The ways to assess students' language level were discussed, including tutorials at the end of the week when possible, evaluation by students in the form of a survey about the course, and testing. The various types of tests were listed and explained, including placement tests, diagnostic, progress, practice, achievement, proficiency, and external examinations. Of the external examinations, the different types were explained, namely TOEFL, TOEIC, IETLS and the many levels of Cambridge tests.
