The contrast between watching the same lesson done poorly and effectively has highlighted how much difference a teacher can make to the student's capacity and willingness to learn. The simple use of a smile and introductions all round at the beginning of the second video set the tone for the rest of the lesson, although the students clearly already knew and trusted Mark as their teacher, and he had a good relationship with them already. Simplicity is engaging, the lesson seemed so easy, the student's looked like they were having fun without really realising they were learning. Most of this came down to the attitude that the teacher brought to the classroom.
