Unit 2 discussed some of the basic categories and rules of English grammar, and provided many examples of what they are and how they are applied. As I studied the different kinds of nouns, verbs, articles, prepositions, adjectives, adverbs, and other parts of speech, I not only learned the rules of how they function, but also some of the exceptions to those rules. While I knew prior to reading the unit that many exceptions existed in English grammar rules, it was helpful for me to learn some specific ones so that I will know when my students need to apply a rule and when they simply need to memorize how a particular word is used.
