In this unit we watched a video that portrayed two examples of a teacher's style. In the first, the teaching style was poor, because the teacher's attitude was rather cold and his instructions were confusing. This lead to the students not participating or using the language and not feeling welcome to participate. In the second, the lesson worked a lot better because the teacher was friendly and explained the instructions clearly. Also, he used more of an ESA styled lesson. The Engage step especially made a difference, I felt, because it let the students know that their participation would be welcome, and they felt more comfortable speaking after that point. It also set up a lot of the language the students would be using in the Study and Activate phases.
