This unit introduces the different forms of the past tense in English, their usages, ideas for Activate stage activities that can be used to teach them, how to create each form (with examples) and examples of regular and irregular verbs in the past tense. Whilst the formation of the past tense forms is something which I already teach quite extensively, this unit has been useful for me in thoroughly laying out the various usages that the forms have in a fashion which is easy to understand and explain, particularly the difference in usage between the past continuous and the past perfect continuous. It has provided fresh ideas of how one can teach each of these forms - this is something which I would have possibly struggled with when it came to the present perfect and perfect continuous forms. I will definitely make use of these ideas and explanations in my future lessons.
