In unit 4,the structures and usages of the present tenses are treated. To begin with , in English , tense means time. There are three different times in English; the past, the present and the future. There are four aspects in each of these times namely; Simple, Continuous, Perfect and Perfect Continuous. This results in the tenses such as present simple tense that deals with verbs in the present bare form. The present continuous (also called the present progressive) deals with auxiliary verbs to "be" and the present participle. An example is adding "ing" to the main verb. The present perfect tense connects the past to the present. Here the subject plus the auxiliary verb "have" plus past participle. The perfect continuous deals with events that relates the past to the present. It implies that either the event is likely to continue in the future or that the event was in progress for some length of time or both.
