Having studied English and grammar throughout my education I have found these names and rule familiar.
However at every point in my education I have believed this is an exercise. We speak by intonation and flow, we learn by repetition and listening not by studying the rule and then formulating sentences. Of course in academia the rules were created and then applied to the language. The spoken language came first. Now to prove our level of intelligence we must study the rules to prove we are speaking correctly. However with the creation of computer applications such as Grammarly, a commercial program that corrects one’s writing, it could be said, there is a need to master the rules and many have not done this.
