English verbs use a tense system which, in part, give information concerning the timing of the action of the verb. The first system we study in this course is the present tense. There are four present tenses: simple present, present perfect, perfect continuous, and present perfect continuous. The Activate stage of our lessons is where we really put the lessons points to work. At this stage, teachers must strive to get each student speaking English and using the different tenses correctly. Because the present perfect and the present perfect continuous can be particularly confusing, it may be good to do a compare and contrast exercise.
