Unit 4: The Present Tenses is easy to use without thinking as a native speaker but I can see there being much confusion of which tense to use as an English Learner. The present simple (ps) tense used do/does and not/doesn't for negative, it is used for things in general, facts, routines and habits. The present continuous (pc) tense is actions in progress at or around the time of speaking and uses the auxiliary verb to be (am/are/is) and adds -ing to the end of the verb. The present perfect (pp) tense is used in indefinite past actions, unfinished past actions, and past actions with present results and used have/had plus the verb ending in -ed. The present perfect continuous (ppc) tense is for actions continuing until the present point in time and used 2 auxiliary verbs have/has, been plus the verb with the -ing ending. The PP and PPC tenses tend to get confused but remember that PP use state verbs and PPC use action verbs.
