In this unit, I learnt the basic rules, past, present and future uses and teaching ideas of modal auxiliary verbs. Modal auxiliary verbs are used to express; polite requests, formal permission, degree of certainty, obligation, necessity, ability and possibility etc. For example, 'could you help me?' expresses a polite request, 'i can run fast' shows ability and 'i must do the test today' shows obligation. I also learnt the forms, usage and teaching ideas of passive voice. We use the passive voice when we do not know the performer of the action in a sentence or we do do not want to say exactly who performed the action. For example if we say 'last night a girl was killed' we do not know who killed the girl so, such sentence is written in the passive voice form. Finally i learnt the different types of relative clauses which includes; defining and non-defining relative clauses and the different types of phrasal verbs which includes; intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable.
