Pronunciation is an often overlooked, but incredibly important aspect of learning English. It can also seem (and be) very difficult to break down into its simple forms and subsequently teach, particularly when you take into account the different and varied styles or accents of English speakers from around the world, only some of which would be familiar to the learners. I am an Australian and have taught several impromptu English lessons to non-native English speaking friends, during which I was suprised by how much they struggled with my accent even if they were familiar with the words I was using (wives and waves as an example) - mainly because, I presume, most of their exposure to English has been American English in movies, TV and music. Thankfully, there are resources - such as the phonetic alphabet and diagrams of speech organs - and techniques - such as tongue twisters, symbols, modelling and poems (I like the George Bernard Shaw poem as a fun, interesting hook) - to help break the content down and as such, make it easier to understand and teach.
