Unit 13 discussed the teaching of English pronunciation using Phonology, which focuses on areas of 'Stress' and 'Intonation', as well as the use of International Phonetic Alphabet to help students understand pronunciation. Intonation focuses on volume and pitch within sentences to express emotions or feelings, as well as to indicate certain message in questioning/agreeing/disagreeing/confirming statements. Stress on the other hand, focuses on individual words in a sentence to interpret the context of the statement. Each method has its own explanation and teaching techniques to help students learn the process.
