This was an interesting section, to learn about the reasons why we make different noises in our speech. I love that different languages have different sounds. I also find it enjoyable to read phonetic script. I had never learned much of the information contained in this chapter, and I appreciated its objectivity, whereas theories of effective teaching are subjective and culturally-relative/non-universal.
