The main focus of this unit is the usage of Past Tenses which includes past simple, past continuous and past perfect continuous. It is really similar to the present tenses in terms of the structure and usage, except the past tenses indicate the events happened in the past. This unit demonstrates these three aspects through its form, usage, common mistakes/errors with tense arising from the usage and the teaching ideas during the Activate stage. After the systematic learning of this unit, I feel more familiar to the grammar point and build up more confidence in teaching Past Tense system. At the same time, it could be easy to make mistakes from the use of irregular verbs. It requires the students to memorize all the verbs in irregular forms. The confusion also exists when the students study the difference in structure and usage between past simple and past continuous, past simple and present perfect as well as present perfect and past perfect. The teacher could use different teaching ideas mentioned in the course to illustrate our explanation with example sentences in order to make the students to fully absorb the information.
