This unit covered some of the basic qualities that a teacher of ESL should possess and some of the roles they should play in the classroom, as well as those of students of English. It also covered some basic terminology regarding ESL teaching and the various different standards used.
I found the descriptions of the roles of the teacher useful as they codified something that I have always been aware of as a tutor but have never put thought into directly. This will help greatly with lesson planning, allowing for a better idea of how balanced a lesson is in terms of student participation and the use of differing activities. Having a quick and easily accessible rundown of the different factors that affect students' learning is also a useful classroom tool, potentially giving me as a teacher a better idea of how to help each student succeed.
