This unit went over the basics of English grammar. I believe this is important to know of any language we plan to teach because this knowledge is necessary for students learning a second language. Once you know one language, you are instilled with the grammatical rules that make sense to you and others that speak your language. However, when learning another language, these grammatical rules you know and have grown up with generally no longer apply. If a second language learner chooses to ignore these new grammar rules and stick with their native language's grammar while speaking in a second language, they are likely to be incomprehensible to other native speakers of that second language, no matter how much they practice and study their vocabulary. As future teachers, it is important for us to know the grammatical rules for our own language so we can teach general rules that make sense for them to follow.
