This unit was about classroom mechanics. It covered topics such as seating arrangements, classroom rapport, methods for writing on boards to minimize the time spent with the teachers back to the students, body language (eye contact and gestures), student grouping, discipline and balancing the student/teacher relationship. I was particularly intrigued by the discussion on the effects of the classroom seating arrangements. I would love to experiment with some different arrangements in my conversation class but the facilities do not allow for that. The other thing that caught my attention was the advice on preventing behavior problems. This advice focused on things that were totally within the teacher's control - the teachers character and habits such as preparation and only raising issues on which the teacher could followed through. This was another helpful lesson.
