This unit began discussing classroom management. There are both cultural and practical implications to classroom management such as age, nationality, space, the intent of certain parts of a lesson, etc. It is important to minimize teacher talk time, but also to ensure teacher talk time at various parts of the lesson; the economy of language is key. It is important to build positive relationships with and among students. It also is imperative to provide clear, consistent, and simple instructions to avoid confusion and help minimize teacher talk time. The unit covers a variety of ways to allow more student input while not detracting from the effectiveness of instruction and class.
