Lengthy unit. There is a lot of information to take in and learn. A difficult unit for those individuals without any background in speech or phonetics to absorb. I did not agree with your take on linked speech, sound dropping and extra letter production (p10-11) where you state that this is a natural way of talking and not the sound of an uneducated person. Perhaps in England, however to me,an American, it is the sound of an uneducated person - someone who was never taught the proper way to speak. Individuals I hang out with (who number in the hundreds) don't have this tendency to be sloppy speakers. ...P.S. - With respect to speech and voice, CORD as in vocal cord, does not have an /h/in its spelling. It is incorrectly spelled on p.15 but accurately spelled in diagram later in unit .
