In this unit, I have learned about Past tenses. It comprises of past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. Each tense has a different formula and usage. For past simple, it is used for actions completed at a definite time in the past. A form of the tense is a subject+base form of the verb. Furthermore, in past continuous, the formula is a subject+base form of verb+ing. This tense is used for interrupted past actions and used without a time expression which can indicate gradual development that took place in the past. This tense can also be used in descriptions. The next tense is past perfect, to form this tense we use a subject+had+past participle. To identify this tense we can analyze the sentences because it usually represents actions that occurred before other action in the past. The last one is past perfect continuous tense, the formula of this tense is a subject+had+been+base form of a verb+ing. The usage of this tense is to state longer actions in the past that had been going on continuously up to the past moment we were thinking about.
