In this unit many instructions are given to suggest several ways on how to manage correctly a class, in order to avoid right from the first lessons that the class lacks discipline.
First of all, instructions on how to use the eyes, the voice and gestures are given. Along with them, things that should be avoided are also indicated (ie. staring in the eye at a learner, use the name of a learner at the begin of question or referring to students pointing them out).
Then the advantages and disadvantages of the various students' grouping are shown. A grouping option should be chosen depending on which objective the teacher needs to achieve on that lesson. Strictly connected to the grouping is the classroom arrangment. Depending on the spaces and actual furniture provided by the school, the teacher will be able to choose among the different configurations (rows, horseshoes or individual desks), depending on the age of the learners, their nationality and the size of the class itself.
Finally, general instructions are given on how to deal with behavior problems, but especially on how to avoid them in the first place. Establishing a good rapport between teacher and students and among students is most likely one of the most important. Also the teacher will need to give the right message to the students of being enjoying the job and being serious about it (being punctual, fair, returning homework promptly etc.).
