A teacher can manage his or her classroom using eye contact, gestures, seating, engaging activities, and building a rapport with students. A teacher builds rapport with students by maintaining consistent expectations with consistent outcomes, learning the students' names, and building positive relationships. Strategies such as gestures, organized activities, student pair work, and class discussions reduce teacher talk time and allow the students to interact with the lesson more. The more engaged students are the more effective a teacher's classroom management will be. A teacher can use strategic seating arrangements to manage the classroom, organize activities, and increase student participate. Arrangements such as circles and horseshoes allow for more student participation, but are more difficult in large classroom settings. Management strategies will depend on a variety of factors such as the students' age, the expectations of the school, and the teacher's rapport with the students.
