Past tenses are very similar to present tenses, although it can become more confusing especially when trying to teach it to students who are just learning about the tenses. It will be best to start using past simple for a couple of activities and gradually move on to more complicated tenses of the past. Especially with children, they will find it very challenging to use past perfect and PPC, these two tenses are more for teenagers to adults but most likely will also be difficult to grasp immediately.
