This unit covers evaluation and testing , which are tools are used to assess students english level or the progress that they make in the class .this unit identify five types of tests , which are the placement test, the diagnostic test, the progress test ,the practice test and the general external examination. The placement test and the diagnostic test are used to determine students entrance level. The progress test is used to check what students have retained from the taught lessons and the areas of difficulties . then teacher can put more accent on those areas of difficulties. The practice test follow the format of external examinations , it is a assessment of the general aspect of the language.There are different kind of external examinations , among them are the TOEFL , the IELTS and the CAE.those examinations are mostly taken for study of work purposes and are accepted by many universities around the world.
