This unit is about modals,phrasal verbs and passive voice.modals are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb,they can be used to express obligation,possibility, probability,permission,prohibition,ability,advice...Among those auxiliary verbs there are:may,might,need to ,must,have to,have got to,should/ought to,should,can,could,be able to,would. There are two voices in english , the active voice which puts the focus on the agent and the passive voice where the agent is less important or does not appear.the tense of a sentence remains the same both in the passive and active voice of that sentence.In the passive voice the tense is shown by the auxiliary verb 'be' and in te active voice ,the tense is shown by the main verb. A clause is a group of words containing a subject and a verb.there are three types of clause:the independent clause which is a complete sentence,the dependent clause which is an incomplete sentence that needs to be connected to an independent clause,and the relative clause which is a dependent clause that modifies a noun .It describes,identifies or gives further information about a noun. Phrasal verbs are made of a verb plus one or two particles.(A particle may be a preposition or an adverb,or an adverb and a preposition.).there are three types of phrasal verbs: the intransitive ,the transitive separable,the transitive inseparable.
