This unit was a comparison of two approaches to the same lesson. In the first video the teacher had a much harder time with the lesson because he was not engaging and he tried to have students answer questions that they did not understand. In the first video the teacher repeated what he wanted multiple times or said how it was easy, but he did not break down the topic well or prompt the students. If someone did not understand or asked a question that he did not understand, he just moved on. The class participation was very low because there was no rapport between the students and the teacher. I believe they felt intimidated because the instructions were very limited, and he kept saying the topic was easy. Finally, he did not leave enough time for the the parts of the lesson and would just move on in order to fit all the activities in, and at the end he just cut the lesson off when they ran out of time. In the second video the teacher did a great job connecting with the students, starting with an introduction of his name and gathering all the student's names. Then he explained his activities well, and either demonstrated or prompted the students with the expectations. I also really like how he funneled the topic with all the information they students would need to participate in the lesson. He started with lists of animals, followed by the actions that the animals perform, then pictures of the animals. Then he wrote on the board can and can't sentences, followed by a worksheet where the students completed these sentences. The class then reviewed this together where they all participated. Finally he showed a picture of his imaginary animals, and asked students to come up with their own. The teacher was much more clear in the second video, and had a better understanding of how he should talk to the students, and how he should break down the lesson.
