This unit has some great structure, but it is also muddled down at the end I feel. The opening pages have a beautiful table that I wish had been utilized further throughout the other units in the understanding of the proper use of the modal verbs. These were exceptionally well done and helped to remind me of the use of several of them in a working context. On page 5 there is a terrific hint about Question 2 in Question 9, saying that the two are different cases and should be examined as such. Truly this part of the chapter was put together by a master. Follow these master works are several ideas on how to engage students with these finer points of grammar. The section on relative clauses was also good. Unfortunately the next two sections on passive voice and phrasal verbs feel hollow and almost skeleton in comparison. I again struggled through this test as there are few examples of passive voice and even fewer of phrasal verbs making it very difficult to determine what each even really is. I have had experience with passive voice, but I still have trouble identifying it and this unit didn't really assist me with that. As for phrasal verbs, it just seemed a complicated way of saying "these terms don't mean what they literally say", but I don't know if that is what this was trying to communicate and again, I do not feel confident with the results of this test.
