It was fascinating to see all the exceptions to past tense verbs. I can imagine learning English that would be really challenging to memorize the past tense of those verbs. Because there's not one particular rule behind those exceptions. I think once my students become familiar with the pieces needed to create a perfect continuous sentence. Adding the past aspect to it, won't present to much of a challenge. It's one building block to add onto the others.
