Unit 1 gave me a good insight into the English Language teaching realm. I have come to learn the attributes of a good teacher and his/her roles in the classroom. The roles are quite a bunch and each role has its unique scenario where it fits best. I have also come to understand the characteristics of a good learner. These learners come in different categories according to age. The different respective categories being adults (18 years and beyond), post puberty (13-17 years), pre-puberty (8-12 years) and the last age group being 2-7 year olds. These different age groups bring to the classroom varying levels of motivation, committment, experiance, knowledge and attention. I have also learnt that there are different six levels of one's understanding of the English Language which are Breakthrough, Waystage, Threshold, Vantage, Occupational Efficient and Mastery. In my own opinion this unit provided the student with a good comprehensive introduction to the world of teaching as it highlighted first the important attributes that make a good teacher, for without these then the whole teaching experiance will be a nightmare.
