Unit 2 focused on different parts of speech and how to identify and classify each part. I learned how to decode each word from a sentence and classify it into a part of speech. There are five main types of nouns; common, proper, compound, abstract, and collective. Plural nouns change the state by adding an s or es. There are exceptions with words such as tooth, child, man, and foot. Adjectives are used to describe nouns that use two different types of comparisons, comparatives and superlatives. In English there are definite and indefinite articles. Determining when to use these types of articles depends on if you are referring to a member of a group or a specific member of a group. Verbs refer to states and are either transitive or intransitive. Verbs are classified as regular or irregular. Adverbs are parts of speech that add meaning or information to the action. There are four types of pronouns; personal possessive, reflexive, and relative. Finally, prepositions and conjunctions are used to show the relationship between nouns and pronouns and join words in sentences. This unit was extremely informative on learning the different types of speech and how to introduce this material to a class.
