This unit describes the general skills of the student, as either receptive or productive. Many students can reach some degree of proficiency in productive skills in the classroom, but when trying to use their abilities in the environment, they might not be able to keep pace. As such, it is important to develop these equally. Avoid using authentic sources early on, as they will likely contain an abundance of material that students likely have not learned yet. If there is no choice, then make sure to teach them in advance the vocabulary and language structures that they will encounter in the source.
